Power In Our Wrath
Power In Our Wrath is a combination of 2 artworks; the glazing “The Child In Me Protests”, and the mirror base “I Am Not Your Mother”. The artist reflects on their navigation through divorce, abuse, and the collective grief of the abandonment of selves for the sake of fitting into what we believe to be acceptable—loveable. Every stroke of paint obscures the likeness of the onlooker, much akin to a woman being stripped of her identity and profound self with every societal expectation and patriarchal trauma she endures.
This piece beckons the onlooker to look through the painted mirror at their own reflection; how much of yourself can you see through the noise?

Primordial Mother Speaks For Herself
Hand-lettered installation of Zakiya McKenzie's poem for the exhibition Forest: Wake This Ground, commissioned by Arnolfini.
The main lettering design was based on Zakiya's handwriting to reflect Zakiya's voice, whilst the third stanza was a freehand exploration to channel the voice of Primordial Mother.
